Myth is the public dream, and dream is the private myth. - Joseph Campbell
The myth is that supporting the economy by using credit is a good thing to do. But throwing money away is a bad thing to do. We throw money away all the time. There must be some good reasons for this widespread behavior.
We buy expensive cups of fancy coffee. We buy junk food filled with empty calories. We spend money on clothes we never wear. We buy gasoline and then use it to go joy-riding. We use credit cards with high interest rates, never paying off the account balances. Etc., etc.
We spend our money these ways for many different psychological reasons: to comfort ourselves, to give ourselves pleasure, on a whim, out of ignorance or because we are in denial about basic facts.
We will continue to spend, spend, spend. But we need to know why we are doing it. Otherwise we will remain unconscious and non-choiceful, acting as if there is no tomorrow.
