Jewels come out of the ground. These beautiful rocks are objects of the earth, buried for eons in the dirt.
Gritty miners find and retrieve them. They are cleaned, weighed and graded. Then they are polished, cut and mounted. And we love the results, jewelry. The song lyrics say that diamonds are a girl's best friend. I have blue topaz, amethyst, turquoise and jade jewelry. I prefer them to diamonds - too cold and hard.
We store our royal rocks in jewelry boxes, cases, drawers and safe deposit boxes. We wear jewelry around our necks, in holes in our ears (and other odd places), around our wrists, on our fingers, and as decoration on items of clothing.
Both men and women collect jewelry: necklaces, earrings, rings, watches, pendants, belts, bolos, etc. We gift them, collect them, wear them, show them off, adorn ourselves with them. Ancient Egyptians royals were buried with priceless collections of jewelry for use in the afterlife.
So here's to those royal rocks!
