The oil business - or the "awl bidness,"
as they say in Texas. What do I know about the oil business; I'm just a girl.
It's kind of a guy thing. My father worked in the oil business. I have a friend whose husband was in the oil business, before his retirement. The president and vice-president of the US-of-A were in the "awl bidness" before their election to highest office.
It's also a money thing. We live in the middle of a gas field, but we'll never get rich from it. The oil guys and the city will get most of the money. The rest of us will pay dearly for heat and light and locomotion.
And it is a war thing. We are fighting over oil in the Middle East. They have it. We don't want them to have it all. And we want it to be cheaper. Out on the road this summer, we'll all want it cheaper. But we shouldn't go to war over it. But we have, and we will again. Until it's no longer all about oil.
