October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I was reminded of the significance of the month by my blog friend, Fayrouz of Beaumont. I recommend you visit her blog to read an excellent post on the subject, complete with a petition to sign. It says it all -- and better than I could -- about why our support is important.
From the House - If you can believe it, the image for this post was found at House.gov. It was fitting that it originated there, because the House just lost a Member to breast cancer. According to Yahoo! News,
Rep. Jo Ann Davis, a Virginia Republican first elected to the House of Representatives in 2000, died on Saturday after a long battle with breast cancer, her spokesman said. She was 57.
Davis, who died at her home in Gloucester, Virginia, had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and was able to return her job, spokesman Chris Connelly said.
"She was back and doing well and then she had a recurrence at the beginning of 2007," he said.
About the issue - Last year Rep. Tim Murphy (D-Pa.) issued a useful statement [2 pg pdf] about breast cancer.
My own interest is more personal. I am a survivor of breast cancer. I had a lumpectomy and radiation in recent months. My early diagnosis came as a result of routine mammogram.
Are you or those you love, up to date with their mammograms? It can make a huge difference in survivability.

Thank you for reminding me of Rep. Jo Ann Davis. I added her to my post.
I hope all is going well with you.
You're quite welcome. Yes, I'm doing very well - no doctor appointments for another month.
And I hope that things are going well for you (and Mark, too!)
