Myth is the public dream, and dream is the private myth. - Joseph Campbell
The Five Sides of the Pentagon
- Push - Expenditures are pushed out of the regular budgetary calculations. So it is impossible to tell how much the military actually spends each year.
- Plush - Defense contracts for weapons systems seem to spare no costs, while routine spending on the men and women of the armed services too often suffers cutbacks.
- Whoosh - People at the Pentagon love things that go very fast - airplanes, bombs and bullets, information systems, etc.
- Who - We are not always sure how many people and who works at the Pentagon. Nor do we always know what all these people do there. Why - History so far shows that war is a big deal to a lot of people. We have yet to figure out a better way. Meanwhile, Five Sides Rule.
