Myth is the public dream, and dream is the private myth. - Joseph Campbell
Friend or foe? Thistles are mixed blessings. I have been familiar with this plant for as long as I can remember. Ubiquitous is the word for them - they are all over the place. Attractive to look at, but dangerous to grab, these weeds are tenacious and hardy. Tumble weeds are also thistles. The dry ones gather along fence lines just like the purple thistles. Both beautiful in their own ways.
