- Franklin D. Roosevelt -
This great former president is associated in my mind with Thanksgiving.
There are several reasons why this might be. - Illustrator Norman Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post covers included "The Four Freedoms," one of which was "Freedom from want."
- President Roosevelt was in the White House during many of my most formative childhood years - up to age 8. Kids remember Thanksgivings several years earlier than age 8. He was our Commander in Chief, one of the men who really kept us safe.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt was, in effect, the nation's "provider" for many years, starting when the U.S. cupboard was almost empty and ending towards the end of World War II. The provisions on Thanksgiving tables changed for the better towards the end of his time.
- President Roosevelt was responsible for many things about which I remain thankful: his full capacity despite his disability, the leadership examples of Eleanor Roosevelt (a female who still inspires) and Harry Hopkins (a Social Worker), my Social Security check, the legacy of all the public facilities built by CCC workers, the markings every year of VE Day and VJ Day, the Democratic party's resilience, and finally for his friendship with another of my heroes, Winston Churchill.
My topical post today at South by Southwest is about warriors.
My “dreams and dreaming” post today at Good Second Mondays is about discussing dreams with others.
